On Friday, I was listening to Mary Brace on Lightning 100 on my way in to work. Every morning she has a question (usually pop culture related) and Friday's was of course Super Bowl related. Her question was "In 2004, Janet Jackson performed in the Super Bowl halftime show, now known as Nipplegate. Who was performing with her?" Obviously the answer was Justin Timberlake, but hello, that was 9 years ago!! What!?!?! It seems like less than that. Especially because I can remember being at a Super Bowl party at a friend's house, in his living room, when it occurred. Michael and I weren't even dating then, but I do remember him being there (we started dating 6 short months later).
These days, our Super Bowl festivities are much lower key. Our friends, the Neals, came over with their 9 month old baby and we sat around, had a couple of beers, and they were gone by 9pm. I think I was in bed by 9:30 before the game was even over (only because of that insane power outage that shut the game down for 30+ minutes).
Regardless, the most exciting part of our day, was the fact that Michael smoked "the Fatty." To all of my vegetarian readers out there (shout out to my sister Meredith), you might want to overt your eyes.
The outside is a bacon quilt. It's stuffed with beef, polish sausage, cheese and boiled eggs. It only takes like 24 hours to make - Michael prepped it on Saturday night, refigerated it until Sunday around noon. Then placed it in the smoker. It stayed in the smoker for about 3+ hours. For the formal recipe, go to the Garden and Gun web site. It was delicious - a whole lot of meat.
Btw, Winston LOVED it. But for him, what's not to love? Bacon - hmm, good. Beef - hmm, good. Sausage - hmm, good.
How was everyone else's Super Bowl Sunday?
